Spieler der s.Oliver Baskets starten die Charity-Aktion „WueGIVEBACK“ - Team übernimmt den Schmankerl-Stand von Kiliani-Festwirt Michael Hahn

Raus aus der Basketball-Halle und rein in den Spezialitätenstand der Festwirt-Familie Hahn auf dem Würzburger Weihnachtsmarkt: Die Spieler der s.Oliver Baskets tauschen am kommenden Mittwoch von 18 bis 19 Uhr ihre Trikots gegen Kochschürze und Grillzange.

Kapitän Darren Fenn und seine Teamkollegen übernehmen die Schmankerl-Hütte am Unteren Markt (Ecke Marktgasse) und werden persönlich am Grill stehen. Die Besucher und Fans können ihre Lieblingsspieler hautnah erleben und am Stand mit Ihnen ins Gespräch kommen. Alle Besucher haben die Chance, attraktive Preise, unter anderem Trikots, zu gewinnen.

Den Erlös der Aktion spendet Kiliani-Festwirt Michael Hahn der von Darren Fenn und der Mannschaft am Wochenende gestarteten Charity-Aktion „WueGIVEBACK“.

s.Oliver Baskets Kapitän Darren Fenn ist der Initiator der Aktion: „Wir haben die besten Fans in Deutschland. Zuhause und auswärts zeigen sie uns jede Woche, was Einsatz und Engagement bedeuten. Wir Spieler wollen etwas zurückgeben und zeigen, dass wir uns den Fans und der ganzen Stadt verbunden fühlen. Deshalb haben wir die Initiative "WueGIVEBACK" ins Leben gerufen. Wir werden Spenden für drei wohltätige Organisationen in Würzburg sammeln", sagt Fenn.

Auch die Frauen und Freundinnen der Spieler beteiligen sich an der Aktion. Los ging es am Samstag beim Nikolaus-Heimspiel gegen Paderborn in der s.Oliver Arena. Rose Dourisseau, Mika Medlock und Laura Hoffmann verteilten gegen Spenden Glühwein, leckere Kuchen und selbst gebackene Plätzchen. Weitere Aktionen in der Vorweihnachtszeit sind geplant.

Die Botschaft von Darren Fenn im Wortlaut:

"Dear Fans, Supporters and Friends of the s.Oliver Baskets,

during this Christmas season, our team would like to take the time to thank all of you.  We feel blessed to have fans like you behind us, packing the s.Oliver Arena during every home game and traveling everywhere to cheer us on and show our opponents the meaning of the words fan support.

You give us the energy we need during the tough moments of the games, and strike fear into the hearts of the other teams' players when they hear how loud you get!!!  We truly feel that we have the best fans in Germany!!

You have shown us what commitment means, and because of this, we would like you to know that we are committed to you as well, and to the Wurzburg community.  The players have started a #wuegiveback initiative, in which we will be raising money for three local Wurzburg charities and organizations.  Our wives and girlfriends will be selling cakes, cookies and gluehwein before and at halftime of the last home game before Christmas, Dec. 6th.

In addition, we will be present from 6-7 pm in the Christmas Market on Wednesday, December 10th. Please come join us, all the players will be there to speak with you and sign autographs.  Everyone who donates will receive a token of our appreciation and will also be included in a raffle in which they will be eligible to win some fun prizes, like team jerseys!!!

There will be some more events for #WueGIVEBACK after Christmas as well, and again, all of the proceeds will be going right back into the Wuerzburg community.
